Below are basic instructions for connecting an AT&T (Cingular) Wireless cell modem/ phone to a Juniper System`s Field PC. More detailed instructions are available by contacting AT&T Wireless.

Cellular Modem (PCMCIA and CF card)

  1. Install any necessary drivers for the cellular modem onto the Field PC (not required for the Enfora CF card with Type II CF to PCMCIA adapter in the Allegro CX Field PC).
  2. Make a new dial-up connection by tapping Start > Settings > Network and Dial-Up Connections, and double-tap Make New Connection.
  3. Tap on Dial-Up Connection > Next, and then set "Modem:" to the name of the card (such as "Enfora-GSM0110").
  4. See the "Dial-Up Network Setup" section below for further information.

Bluetooth Wireless Technology Connection

  1. Make sure the cell phone has the Bluetooth DUN profile enabled, and that Bluetooth on the phone is set as "Shown to All".
  2. On the Field PC, tap on the Bluetooth "B" icon > Advanced Features > My Bluetooth Device.
  3. In the General tab, check the Discoverable and Connectable checkboxes.
  4. In the COM Ports tab, check the Bluetooth Phone checkbox, and then tap OK to close the Device Manager window.
  5. Tap on the Bluetooth "B" icon > Get Connected! Follow the instructions given in the Get Connected! wizard.

  6. You may be asked to enter a PassKey. If your cell phone does not have a default Bluetooth PassKey, try entering any character such as "1". If you are asked to confirm the new PassKey on the cell phone, enter the same character again.
  7. Make a new dial-up connection by tapping Start > Settings > Network and Dial-Up Connections, and double-tap Make New Connection.

  2. On the Allegro, make a new dial-up connection by tapping on Start > Settings > Network and Dial-Up Connections, and double-tap Make New Connection.
  3. Tap on Dial-Up Connection > Next, and then set "Modem:" to "Generic IR Modem".
  4. See the "Dial-Up Network Setup" section below for further information.

Dial-Up Network Setup

Note: The below AT&T (Cingular) modem strings, phone number, user name, and password information can change without notice. Newer AT&T cellular modems/phones may require different modem strings or no modem strings at all. Please contact AT&T Wireless for information.

  1. While in the Modem setup step of the "Make New Connection" wizard in the Network and Dial-Up Connection window, tap on the Configure button > Call Options tab > enter +cgdcont=1,"IP","isp.cingular" or +CGDCONT=1,"IP","WAP.CINGULAR" into the Extra Settings field > tap OK.
Note: Make sure all serial communication settings (baud, data bit, stop bit, parity, and flow control) match the settings required by the connecting modem/phone, such as Blackberry phones do not require flow control. Bluetooth connections are best set to the highest 115200bps baud rate.
  2. Tap Next, and then enter a phone number as specified in the phone manual. This number may be "*99***1#". Then tap Finish.
  3. Double-tap "My Connection" or the connection you made.
  4. Set the user name and password as specified in the phone manual (newer modems/phones may not require a user name and password). This may be User: ISP.CINGULARGPRS.COM or wap@cingulargprs.com, and Password: CINGULAR1.
  5. Tap on Dial Properties > Edit. Change all three text boxes to "G", and then press Enter. Tap OK, and confirm that "Phone:" is set to "*99#" or "*9***1#" with no country or area code.
  6. Tap Connect.
